Jiyu An

Jiyu An (she/her) is a Korean artist who creates Heart Universe in clay. She uses home and heart shapes as signifiers to capture immortal moments in mundane life with love. Jiyu makes viewers see things through her windows from her perspective. Her artwork conveys her experiences without being dispassionate and cold, with a warm Korean perspective and cultural signs. She found happiness in her life by engaging with her loved ones and herself, developing a fondness for them. Her practice creates interactions for viewers to reflect on their interpretation of love. The definition of love is different for everyone. Sometimes, it is bitter to recognize love, but it follows with happiness, so love is the most accessible window through which people find enjoyment through integrity in her practice. Jiyu completed her BFA at Kookmin University in Seoul, South Korea and earned an MFA in Ceramics from SUNY New Paltz and an MA in Art History at CUNY City College.
